E-Cigs | An Introduction

Hey, what’s happening? Welcome to my site.

I started this site because I was interested in vaping in hopes to reduce my smoking habit. I will be sharing reviews of my favorite (and not-so-favorite) e-cig brands.

About me, I have been a smoker for over 20 years. Sometimes I feel like I should be joining a meeting or something, considering that I have a very addictive personality in many facets of my life.  I mean, come on, is there anything more enjoyable than smoking? For me, it’s a NO!

I love my Marlboro’s, and I am very protective of them.  I do not buy other cigarettes because they are cheaper, nor do I buy 100’s.  Strictly kings for me.

So, back to electronic cigarettes…

Last year a friend came over with his girlfriend, and she was the first person to introduce me to them.  I had seen the starter packs behind the counters at different drug stores, but never even thought about buying any.

Once I was introduced to the concept, I heard of a few more people who were using them.  This got me thinking…

I am generally a person who does not like change.  When I go to restaurants, I always order the same thing. When I go to the grocery store, I always go to the one I am the most familiar with, even if it costs me a little extra.  So this smoking thing had me stumped.

What Finally Sold Me To Dive In?

Yep, you said it… COLD HARD CASH!

I own a seasonal business, closed during the cold winter months.  So, when I opened in March of 2014, one of my employees was smoking an e-cigarette. I began questioning her about them, and I wasn’t paying much attention until she started telling me about the money that she was saving.

She compared my $6.13 daily habit (in the winter when business is closed, it’s closer to $10/day) to her $0.25-$0.50 daily habit, and I almost didn’t believe it. I was spending in 1 day what she was spending in almost 2 WEEKS.

So I won’t debate whether it’s 0.25 cents or 0.50, as it’s pretty irrelevant given the huge difference.

At this point, I thought, if I enjoyed them even a little, maybe I could cut back on my Marlboro’s if they could satisfy even a short fix between cigarettes.  I decided to give them a try.  The first e-cigarette brand that I bought was FIN. It came with a rechargeable battery, cartomizer, and a USB charger.

My First Thought…

“Not too bad”.  I smoked it quite a bit throughout the first day.  I did notice it was a bit hard on the lungs.  I put that away, and went back to my Marlboro’s in search of another brand.

Now my interest had peaked though, so I began doing a little research.  I called my buddy who’s girlfriend had first introduced me to them, and asked him to find out what kind she was smoking.

He got back to me and told me that she was buying them at a place called 21 Century Smoking. They have online ordering, but they also have a shop that was local, so I took a trip out.  They let you test them in the store, and I liked it, so I purchased the Blackjack Battery starter kit, which came with 2 non-refillable cartridge packs, and again, a USB charger.

One was a tobacco flavor (Monte Carlo), and the other was Grape. This cost me around $50, and I received the battery, 2 cartridge packs, and a USB charger. The shop employee told me that the cartridges were the equivalent to about 2 packs of cigarettes, and there were 5 in each pack.  So, basically, I purchased 20 packs of cigarettes, the battery and charger for under $50.

Why Won’t This Thing Stay Charged?

I felt like I was losing the battle in the world of e-cigarettes.  I purchased 3 batteries at $20 bucks a pop within a matter of months, until I decided that there had to be something better. It seemed like I could only smoke for an hour or two, and the battery would die.

So now, there I was… I found that I actually do enjoy them enough to switch between my Marlboro’s to electronic cigarettes, but I am still trying to find the right one.

Stay tuned for my next electronic cigarette review, and hopefully, I’ll find my match!
